Mission StatementTo fulfill Christ's desire, we seek to restore hope and dignity to the needy, that God may be glorified. VisionThe idea of a pilgrim is well captured in Hebrews 11:13:
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
A pilgrim is a traveler focused on reaching a certain destination; all Christians are called to be pilgrims as we journey through this short life towards our heavenly home. As pilgrims we hope to follow the gospel truly, to love without hypocrisy, to care for the poor, to resist evil and injustice, and to live and die truly in the service of Christ, with cheerfulness, dignity, righteousness, and grace. We feel called to live lightly on the earth, and to leave the place better for our passage. We find dignity in offering ourselves as servants: our joy is full when we willingly sacrifice our time, energy and resources to those who are in need. At Pilgrim, Uganda we feel particularly called by God to serve the most disadvantaged victims of war and poverty, first in Teso, the north, then in all of Uganda. Along with prayer and the comforting words of hope which are found in Christ, Pilgrim brings food relief, trauma counseling, holistic education, medical care, forest restoration, and alternative technologies to lighten and improve our use of the natural world. We seek every possible opportunity to encourage those whom we serve to become pilgrims like us and full partners in our vision.
